Alert: Coronavirus

While Ghana has not had any case of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus, we’re asking all patients and families to be vigilant.

The Coronavirus is most commonly spread through coughing or sneezing between people in close contact with each other, and presents as a mild to severe respiratory illness, with symptoms that include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

There is no vaccine available to prevent infection with the new coronavirus, however you can take following recommended standard precautions by WHO for avoiding respiratory viruses and to reduce your risk of infection;

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with your elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth if your hands aren’t clean.
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who is sick.
  • Avoid sharing dishes, glasses, bedding and other household items if you’re sick.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces you often touch.
  • Stay home from work, school and public areas if you’re sick.

If you think that you or a member of your family has been exposed to the Coronavirus, please contact your nearest health Centre right away. If you are coming to Asokwa Children’s Hospital please let our staff know about your possible exposure or symptoms immediately on arrival to help us prevent the spread of the virus.
